Ocean View RV Park Homer Alaska

My husband and I took our camper down to Soldotna and Homer for fourth of July weekend.  We noticed that a lot of campsites were not taking reservations, and it can be kind of hard to get a spot on the holiday weekends.  We got to Homer and my husband wanted to stay at one of the sites on the spit.  Not really my idea of a great spot.  They are close to all the boardwalk shops, and have great views, but its all rock and windy.  Not to mention how cold it gets next to the water.  The weather was extremely warm during this time of July, and unlike Soldotna and Kenai, the mosquitoes were barely noticeable.

All of the lots on the spit were taken (and crammed in), so we took a look in town.  I recently review the Seaside Inn, and they have a small RV park there, but they were full.  I was looking on the Homer website and saw the Ocean View RV Park on there.  I made a call and they had two spots left.  It was $50/night with full hookup.  A bit pricey, but options were limited.  We showed up and they gave us a choice of spots.  The RV park goes down towards the beach, so we got the spot closest to there.  Each spot has a strip of grass, and a lot of them have tables.  Each one has a garbage can at the end with a bungee keeping it closed and safe from bears.  They have two spots in the park where they have dog bags to clean up after your friendly canine.  There is also a larger strip of grass at the end of the park that has a bunch of benches, and this seems to be the area people took their dogs.  There is a small walkway next to that on the left that goes down to the beach.  It goes between a small area for tenters and a private home.

The people at the RV park were very friendly, and were able to smile and be courteous even though they were VERY busy.  The office is inside the gift shop, which we later checked and they do not have toiletries there.  They have showers on either side of the gift shop, and the men's shower needs a code to get though the door.  The showers are well kept, but I still suggest shower flip flops.  The shower curtains were a bit stiff and could probably use replacing.  I didn't ask how the guys side was set up, but the ladies had a good amount of space.  There are two shower stalls that are set up on a step.  There is a built in bench with hooks on the walls and shelves to put your things.  There is a privacy curtain that closes this off from the main area.  There are multiple sinks and large mirrors, and it is well lit.  We were able to get shampoo etc. from the grocery store, but towels were impossible to find.  We ended up using my kitchen towels.  They could probably make some money if they had shampoo etc. available for purchase (if they did, I couldn't find it), and towels to rent.

Overall, we had a great stay here, and will probably stay here again for my next girl trip or what not.

  1. It was a relatively easy way to see a large area of the city and park.
